She holds a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Texas A&M University, and a Master of Education in Counseling Psychology from the University of Houston. She completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Family Systems from Family and Children Enrichment Services (FACES) in San Carlos, Calif., and holds a three-year certification from the Masterson Institute for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy. She has completed a Level I and II certification in using Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) in the treatment of Type I trauma. Her work consists of long-term psychotherapy focusing on the relational aspects of the presenting problems. Dr. Garbarino also does shorter term reality oriented therapy as needed when warranted by the presenting problem. Dr. Garbarino’s clinical training and expertise includes therapeutic work with adults, couples, family and group therapy. She has worked in medical, residential, day treatment and outpatient settings, and provides consultation to professionals. Her teaching work for JFK University provided training for graduate level students and pre-licensure candidates in the field of mental health. She continues to pursue opportunities for personal growth and development as a clinician in the treatment of mental health issues, with an emphasis on helping people to establish and maintain effective relationships at home and at work.
